Torrevieja

Besides the seaport Torrevieja there is a lot to explore among the “Costa Blanca”. The former fishermen’s village, which became popular through its salt-mining, is located nearby the admirable cities Alicante and Valencia and can be easily reached by highway. The cities offer a variety of sights like for instance the castles, cathedrals or old city towns in the historic style. Also the smaller but charming towns like Orihuela, Cartagena, Elche or Murcia attract numerous visitors each year.

In Torrevieja visitors have a lot of opportunities to go shopping. Besides traditional spanish markets there are two big shopping malls:  “Habaneras” and “La Zenia Boulevard” with over 150 shops and restaurants inside.

Futhermore there are a lot of places to eat, offering diverse dishes, especially for lovers of the local Mediterranean kitchen. A popular place as well as for locals as for tourists to have a walk is (besides  green parks)  the beach promenade among the beaches “La Mata”, “Los Locos” and “Del Cura”.

The coastal strip of Torrevieja starts in the North with the popular “La Mata” beach. Furthermore we recommend the rocky bay “El Mojón” and “Las Zorras”.

The region around Torrevieja distinguishes itself through its unique climate. This climate attracts many people who suffer from rheumatism, heart condition, asthma and psoriasis. Because of the two big salt lakes and the sea air Torrevieja is considered as one of the healthiest regions in Europe.

Especially agreeable are the temperatures in winter. On very nice days in December and January the temperatures can rise up to 20° C. So the town became a popular place to be in winter for elderly people. Even though the high temperatures during the winter season, the temperatures in summer are seldom higher then 35 °C.  Furthermore you can count an average of 320 days of sunshine in Torrevieja per year, one of the facts that lead to the development as a popular holiday destination.
